Sudden Surge Of Venezuelan Migrants Sparks Serious Questions For US Immigration

QuestionMarks2

Over the past few years, there has been a serious increase in the number of Venezuelan migrants attempting to gain entry into the United States. Why? Because they are facing serious issues in their own country due to political unrest and economic pressures. Statistics show that Venezuelan immigrants to the United States have tripled since 2010 – and that number is growing every day. But there is a limit to how many Venezuelan migrants the United States can accept. This was made adamantly clear after a recent clash at Mexican border crossing.

Hundreds of Venezuelans Forced Back at the Border

On March 13th, it was reported that hundreds of Venezuelans had attempted to force their way across the US-Mexico border. Border officials were quick to react, and they were successful in pushing the migrants back into Mexican territory. The clash took place at the border city of Ciudad Juarez, and it quickly spiraled out of control. Undeterred by the presence of border officials, the migrants tried to break through barbed wire and barriers. They also came into direct contact with border officials armed with shields.

There were several reports of violence between the two groups. Some migrants apparently shoved border officials, while others hurled plastic cones and other items at the US authorities. On at least one occasion, border officials were forced to deploy pepper spray to disperse the crowd. The entire debacle was captured on video and went viral shortly after being posted online.

Why These Venezuelans Are So Fed Up

The clash didn’t come out of nowhere. It was sparked in large part due to frustrations with the Biden administration’s app. Known as CBP One, the app has been plagued by a number of issues since its introduction. Not only is the app beset with glitches, but too many people are trying to use it at once – leaving it completely unable to handle such high demand.

The irony is that while the app was intended to streamline the process of applying for asylum, it has actually made this even more confusing and problematic for many people. In an official response to complaints, the Department of Homeland Security assures users that it will soon be rolling out a number of important updates. But this announcement has done little to inspire confidence for the many Venezuelans who are making absolutely no progress with their immigration goals.
