ICE Could Receive Billions in Funding: How Will This Affect Immigration in Palm Beach Gardens?

Immig8

Despite a few notable challenges, ICE and CBP could receive billions of dollars in new funding. With this injection of cash, both agencies could drastically affect immigration in Palm Beach Gardens and the entire nation. How will these two agencies use this funding to change the way immigration works in the United States?

ICE and CBP Could Receive as Much as $140 Billion in Funding

On April 23rd, 2026, the BBC reported that Senate Republicans had managed to circumvent the Democrats’ approval to approve funding for U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) and Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). These two agencies both fall under the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), which Democrats have been refusing to fund due to concerns about excessive force and overreach.

The vote was based on a “simple Senate majority,” which allowed the measure to pass by 50 votes to 48. Now, the House of Representatives will need to pass the funding package in order to make it a reality. Although this is not guaranteed, the funding is now very close to reaching ICE and CBP. If successful, ICE and CBP will receive $140 billion in funding ($70 billion each). The Speaker of the House has also indicated that if this bill passes, a new measure will be introduced to provide the DHS with even more funding (exclusive of ICE and CBP).

How Will This Funding Affect Immigration Enforcement?

The $70 billion would fund ICE until the end of Trump’s term, lasting for the next three years. To understand how this funding might change immigration enforcement in the United States, you need to consider pre-Trump ICE funding. During the Biden era, ICE received about $10 billion per year. In 2025, a funding bill gave ICE $75 billion over the next four years, effectively tripling the agency’s annual budget to about $30 billion per year.

If this new funding package passes, it could increase ICE’s annual budget even further. There is some uncertainty about what the final number would be, and CNBC states that the new injection of $70 billion would be “separate” from existing annual appropriations. Whatever the case may be, it is safe to say that ICE’s budget seems to be dramatically increasing within a short period of time.

A higher budget would make ICE one of the highest (if not the highest) funded federal agencies in the country. The funding would probably enable ICE to hire more officers, which would allow it to increase its operations across the entire country. Deportation and detention capabilities would likely increase dramatically, possibly by a factor of five. Some have expressed concerns that this may equate to a federal, private police force with the ability to operate freely in major cities across the country.
