New US Immigration Policy Favors White South Africans

DepDefense

Statistics show that the vast majority of immigrants from South Africa to the United States are white. Hundreds of thousands of these “Afrikaners” now live in the United States despite being born in South Africa. A new immigration policy could increase these numbers and make it easier for white South Africans to settle in the United States. How will this policy work? What if you want to settle in Florida? Could a Palm Beach County immigration lawyer help you?

How a New Policy Will Favor White South Africans

The policy in question focuses on refugees, and it will limit the number of new refugees to just 7,500. The new administration has taken a tough stance against refugees, and this marks a major shift compared to previous presidents. Over the past few years, the United States has accepted hundreds of thousands of refugees under past administrations. For example, the Biden administration let in 125,000 refugees per year.

The new administration did not explain why it was decreasing these numbers to such a great extent. However, it did announce that most of the few spots remaining would be filled by white South Africans. The administration is under the impression that the black-led government in South Africa is facilitating the seizure of white-held land. The president has also accused the South African government of implementing anti-white policies, implying that this stance is related to the alleged widespread black-on-white violence in the country.

Whatever the case may be, it seems as though the people who are most likely to successfully gain refugee status in the coming years will be white South Africans. While this might be disappointing to potential refugees in other countries, it nonetheless represents an opportunity for Afrikaners who want to settle in places like Florida.

An Executive Order Could Fast-Track Your Settlement in the United States

In September of 2025, the U.S. Embassy in South Africa announced that a new executive order could fast-track refugee resettlement for white Afrikaners. The executive order (EO) is called “Addressing Egregious Actions of the Republic of South Africa.” The executive order states that Afrikaners and other racial minorities in South Africa can apply for resettlement in the United States if they have experienced racial discrimination in their home nations.

To be eligible, you must be a South African citizen. You must also identify as an Afrikaner or another racial minority in South Africa. When applying, you must describe your experiences with persecution or the fear of persecution. You must also be living inside South Africa in order to apply.
