US immigration policies continue to evolve with each passing week, and it’s important to remain up-to-date on these developments if you’re trying to implement your own immigration strategies. Whether you face deportation or you’re simply looking to adjust your status for a green card, it makes sense to keep an eye on the latest news. You May Be Able to Compete for Your Citizenship

The United States government is apparently launching a reality TV show that would allow people to compete for citizenship. The DHS states that they have received a pitch from a well-known TV producer who has created other successful shows in the past. The details of this show are incredibly hazy, and there is no guarantee that it will ever become a reality.

That said, the producer says that only “good candidates” would be able to compete, and the show would not represent a way to escape deportation. All of the contestants would likely be people who would eventually receive citizenship anyway, and the show would merely represent a potential fast-track. Potential events include “pizza challenges” in New York, a gold-rush-themed contest in San Francisco, and some kind of NASA-themed contest in Florida.

The Supreme Court Battle Continues Over Deportation

Recently, the Supreme Court issued an important decision preventing the current administration from using the Alien Enemies Act to deport Venezuelan gang members. However, at least one judge in a lower court immediately criticized the decision, implying that it could be some time before this dispute truly ends. The 5th Circuit is now scheduled to hear the case, and the outcome is anything but clear.

Deportees From Myanmar and Vietnam Are Ending Up in South Sudan

Also in May of 2025, various sources reported that the U.S. government had begun deporting people to South Sudan. Among these deportees are people who have no connection to South Sudan, including Vietnamese and Burmese migrants.

Some say that this represents a violation of a previous court order, and a judge from Massachusetts ordered immigration officials to “retain control” of the deportees in case courts eventually rule that this move was unlawful.

That said, initial reports suggest that only a dozen people have been sent to South Sudan. Sudanese authorities quickly noted that these individuals would be “re-deported” to their home nations.
