The Gold Card Visa Program: Details Finally Revealed

GoldVisa

The long-awaited Gold Card Visa Program has finally arrived in the United States, offering immigrants a new way to live and work in the United States. With this arrival, immigrants must also contend with the loss of the EB-5 visa, as the gold card program could replace the “EB” programs entirely. What are the exact details of this new program? Could it be a valid choice for you? These are valid questions that you might want to ask an experienced immigration lawyer in Palm Beach Gardens.

The Gold Card Visa Program Is Officially Live

The “Trump Gold Card” just dropped. The price tag is just $1 million, which is significantly less than initial reports indicated. When this new visa program was first announced by the administration a few months ago, the number on everyone’s lips was $5 million. The lower price tag makes the gold card roughly equivalent to the country’s previous “golden visa” program under EB-5.

That being said, immigrants still have the option to spend $5 million on a visa. If they spend this amount, they will receive “Platinum Trump Cards” that provide additional benefits. These include the ability to earn tax-free foreign income in the United States for 270 days. Another option is the Corporate Gold Card. This option is for businesses aiming to bring foreign employees to the United States, and it will cost $2 million.

Applicants can join the waitlist at TrumpCard.gov. However, the future of this program is still in doubt. In order for the government to start issuing Trump Cards to paying customers, Congress would have to approve the move. The governing body would also need to create new tax regulations and immigration pathways that would facilitate the kinds of things Trump is trying to achieve.

Will the EB-5 Visa Program Still Exist?

If the Gold Card visa is approved by Congress and moves ahead, the EB-5 investor visa will almost certainly cease to exist. This is the plan put forward by the administration, and the Gold Card is supposed to be a replacement for the EB-5 program. This means that investors and entrepreneurs who were depending on this program may need to consider alternative strategies.

It is worth noting that some versions of the Trump Gold Card are actually cheaper than the previous EB-5 visa program. As USCIS notes, the standard minimum investment amount for an EB-5 immigrant investor has increased to $1.8 million. With a price tag of just $1 million, the Trump Gold Card represents a notable discount, potentially with fewer job creation requirements. In other words, the Trump Gold Card could actually be an improvement on the EB-5 investor visa.
